  • Nikhil Nanda is an Indian businessman. He is known for being the son-in-law of Amitabh Bachchan and the husband of Shweta Bachchan. He is the chairman and managing director of Escorts Kubota Limited, which is an engineering company started by his grandfather, Har Prasad Nanda, in 1944.
  • At the age of 13, Nikhil Nanda went to the Doon school in Dehradun. During his school days, he used to visit his grandfather’s (Raj Kapoor’s) house. Once, in a media conversation, he narrated that he was not interested in acting; however, he had a crush on some Bollywood heroines when he was ten years old. Nikhil Nanda said,

    Acting was not for me. I would spend my vacations with my grandfather Raj Kapoor, travelling with him for film shoots. When I was about 10-11, I had a crush on a few of his heroines. But the film world didn’t interest me. I dabbled in modelling on the insistence of friends. But, looking back, it is something that embarrasses me deeply.”

  • After completing his finance and management studies at Wharton Business School, Nikhil Nanda got a job as a trainee in England. Thereafter, he came back to India, and worked at Yamaha for six years, starting from the lowest position.

  • His grandfather, Har Prasad Nanda, moved to India in 1947 during the partition of India and Pakistan with Rs. 500 and three children, serving as his inspiration in life. In 1948, Har Prasad started a company called Escorts Agricultural Machines Ltd to sell tractors and farming tools. Later on, he became a top player in India’s tractor market by working with American companies like Massey Ferguson and Minneapolis Motor.

  • His mother, Ritu, worked as an insurance agent for Life Insurance Corporation of India and was the daughter of actor-producer Raj Kapoor.
  • In 1965, Nikhil Nanda’s father, Rajan Nanda, joined Escorts Limited and took over the reins of the company when Rajan’s father and founder chairman of Escorts Kubota Limited, H P Nanda, stepped down in 1994.

  • In 1997, Nikhil Nanda was appointed as a key board member of Escorts Limited. In October 2005, Nanda started working as Chief Operating Officer in Escorts Limited. Then, in September 2007, he became Joint Managing Director of Escorts Limited. In September 2013, Nikhil Nanda became the managing director of Escorts Limited. In 2018, soon after the death of his father, Rajan Nanda, he was appointed as the chairman and managing director of Escorts Limited.
