  • Simran Sharma was born into a poor family.
  • She was a premature baby and was born in only six months. She weighed around one kg at the time of her birth. She was born with vision impairment. Her straight vision was blurred, and she could not see beyond six feet. However, her vision sideways was better.

  • In school, one of her sports teachers did not like her. She treated her badly as she considered her different from other girls. She was even bullied by her relatives, neighbours, and schoolmates.
  • She continued participating in various sports in her school. However, she never thought of pursuing sports professionally.

  • While she was in college, she started participating in various inter-college running competitions.
  • One day while she was practicing on the MM College athletics track, the Indian Army official Gajendra Singh spotted her. He observed her while practising and decided to train her in athletics. He contacted her for her training. She agreed to it and Singh started her professional training in athletics as he was also an athlete.
  • While practising together, they fell in love with each other, and in 2017, they got married. Initially, Singh’s parents did not approve of his decision to get married to Simran. However, later, they agreed to it.
  • Simran once shared that after one day of her marriage, her husband instructed her to resume her training in athletics.
  • After two years of her marriage, she met the Indian para-athlete Narayan Thakur who motivated her to participate in para-athletic competitions.
  • Initially, Simran and her husband did not have enough money to buy equipments for her training. Her husband then took a loan and sold his plot to buy training equipments.
  • She has participated in various para-athletic competitions like the World Para Grand Prix T13 category, World Para Championships, and Paralympics.
